| There are so many vibrant things to see
and do when arriving in San Francisco, that sometimes
you don’t know where to start. You can chose to visit
museums and galleries, historic buildings, parks,
natural wonders, exciting neighborhoods, boutiques,
scenic overlooks, famous tourist sites - or simply pick
any direction and go! It’s hard to go wrong in the
"City by the Bay."
From an architectural point of view, San Francisco
offers an astounding array of fascinating structures.
Check out Coit Tower, on top of Telegraph Hill, or visit
Fort Point, at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The
Palace of Fine Arts, near the Presidio is
breathtaking. The grand Federalist style buildings
in the Civic Center area which include Davies Symphony
Hall, The Veteran’s Building, The Opera House and
newly renovated, golden domed City Hall are worth a
look. The Museum of Modern Art is a stunning
jewel, and the spiral escalators in the San Francisco
Center present a stunning feat of people-moving
engineering.
The natural beauty of Angel Island, Golden Gate Park,
The Presidio and Strybing Arboretum are hard to beat.
There is also Ocean Beach and a number of gorgeous city
Parks sprinkled throughout. The steep hills provide
stunning views of the Bay, various neighborhoods and
stately Victorian Homes, such as in Alamo Square, which
gracefully keep watch over the city.
The variety of people in this city are its strength.
You can get a taste by visiting the Chinese Cultural
Center, or Yerba Buena Gardens. Walk through North
Beach, or stop for lunch on Clement Street, tour
Japantown or hop out to the Mission District. San
Francisco's population includes a dizzying array of
ethnic backgrounds, who somehow manage to peacefully
coexist in this version of paradise.
As far as entertainment, your imagination is the only
boundary. From Fisherman’s Wharf to "The Filmore,"
Union Square to Union Street, and Chinatown to
Ghirardelli Square, you can shop, eat and drink the day,
and night away. For film lovers, be sure to visit the
elegant Castro Theater in the heart of the Castro
district, and the new Sony Metreon for a state of the
art movie experience. Many traditional and
non-traditional theater companies offer musicals, and
dramatic plays year-round. Music of every genre is
performed at various clubs, halls and bars.
San Francisco offers many attractions, for the first
time visitor, frequent guest, and full time resident.
Yet some of the joys of this city exists in the little
things: like a sunny stroll on the Marina Green,
observing a clanging Cable Car as it rolls by in Russian
Hill, a walk down colorful Irving Street, or simply
sitting on a bench on "Hippie Hill," and
watching the world go by. A powerful multi-cultural,
can-do, western spirit is alive in these streets, and
when it’s time to depart, you too may feel that
you’ve "Left your heart in San Francisco."
