Exploring Monterey

Posted by admin under Comments Off

There is so much to do and see in Monterey that tourist will have to choose between Monterey’s coastal regions or cruise along the inland to view gorgeous rolling hills and verdant valleys. Whichever way they choose, somewhere between Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row would be a good start. Following breakfast, Cannery Row, commemorated by John Steinbeck’s popular novels and currently home to quaint shops, art galleries, and restaurants will be intriguing.

Securing one part of the famous street where the sardines once ruled is the Monterey Bay Aquarium, famous for its interactive exhibits and grand display of marine life. Tourists can then stroll, bike, or roller-blade over to Fisherman’s Wharf for an authentic fleet of whale watching boats. Sailing begins at two and four in the afternoon, depending on which whales will be viewed. Various whale species have designated Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary as their year-round home.

Back on shore, guests can see the sights at the Path of History in Old Monterey, a long with Colton Hall where California’s state constitution was outlined in 1846. In addition, there is Custom House, Maritime Museum of Monterey, and Pacific House offering their own unique history as well. Afterwards, a visit to the Monterey Museum of Art will show-off the rich artistic legacy of Central California. The Monterey Museum provides exclusive collections of early California art and photography in a distinctive historical environment. Additionally year-round lectures, classes, and exhibitions are offered too.

Children will have a ball in the Monterey County Youth Museum. The museum recently re-opened and contains exhibits that instill creativity and a sense of exploration in children and adults. To end the day, a relaxing moment on Cannery Row with delicious wine tasting, and a gift shop for purchasing intricate gifts will be a rewarding conclusion to a fascinating explorative day.
